If you’re like many people, you wish you could lose a little weight, but you can’t wrap your mind around the fact that you need to change the way you eat. Congratulations, you’re normal. Voluntarily giving up fatty foods that were once a staple of your diet is an important decision that most people are unwilling or unable to make. Something you may not realize is that you don’t have to sacrifice good taste to the god of weight loss.
  • Oatmeal is a delicious breakfast product. It is high in fiber, low in calories and very nutritious. You can add all kinds of flavorings to oatmeal, from butter to honey, as long as it is in moderation. Overdoing it will be bad for you.
  • Lettuce and other leafy greens are a wonderful source of fiber and other essential nutrients. Stay away from iceberg lettuce, however, as it has virtually no nutritional value. Green leaves, red leaves and romaine lettuce are good options, as are spinach, kale and chard for iron sources.
  • You don’t have to give up many of your favorite dishes if you cook them with olive oil or natural nut oil and reduce portion sizes. Using non-saturated fats can help reduce the need for other fatty foods and add a different flavor to an already favorite dish.
  • Fish provides essential Omega-3 fatty acids. These acids promote superior brain development and mood stabilization.
  • Beans contain a lot of fiber and protein and help stabilize blood sugar levels. Many vegetarians use beans as a meat substitute. You can even mix beans and lean ground beef to make a heart-healthy and fat-conscious taco or burrito filling.

Mixing these healthy foods with moderate amounts of your favorites will give you a healthy and enjoyable diet that delivers results. You can even go a step further and use natural flavors and spices to spice up your food, instead of pre-packaged spices.

For example, take a look at your favorite taco seasoning and read the ingredients list. Most of what is unpronounceable or does not grow on its own is present primarily as a preservative. If you only use the herbs in it, you can make it tastier and healthier. The extra effort can even make cooking more fun as you create and perfect your recipes.

Let’s be honest! Following and maintaining a weight-loss diet is hard work; no matter how you look at it. But you don’t have to beat yourself up with your diet. By simply seasoning your “diet foods” with only natural spices, and reducing your portion sizes of your favorite foods, you can take some of the hard work out of dieting.
