EDDYVILLE, Ky. – The National Weather Service provided additional details Tuesday about the tornado that formed in Eddyville on Sunday around 7 p.m., resulting in one death.

According to a survey summary provided by NWS, the tornado formed in Eddyville and the Caldwell and Lyon County line sustained damage consistent with an EF-2 tornado.

The tornado continued into western Caldwell County, north of Princeton, reaching its peak width of 2,300 feet. Several mobile homes and wood and brick structures were destroyed in the area. It moved east, approaching western Hopkins County, north of Interstate 69, destroying more mobile homes and at least one permanent home.

North of Morton’s Gap, it destroyed two other mobile homes and overturned a vehicle. It ended in Morton’s Gap around 9:15 p.m. The NWS noted widespread damage to trees along the tornado’s path and said 46 buildings were destroyed or suffered major damage.

Tuesday’s assessment was still considered preliminary.
