While every Super Bowl is unique, some things never change. And in this case, it means the Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions again and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is going to Disneyland again.
Putting together the iconic “I’m going to Disney” commercial in the minutes after the game ends doesn’t seem like the easiest job on television. Changes need to be made, contracts need to be signed and the final outcome of the match is usually not known until the end, especially in the case of overtime like Sunday night.
But that hustle and bustle and subsequent quick creation of the “We’re going to Disney!” commercials are as much a part of the modern Super Bowl experience as a flashy halftime show and buckets of chicken wings.
If you’ve ever wondered how this came about, the iconic commercial started after the 1987 Super Bowl, when winning quarterback Phil Simms was the first to cash in (reportedly $75,000 in 1987) in exchange for saying a few lines and taking a trip to Disney World.
The commercial, largely unchanged from the original version, has appeared almost every year since.
And yes, the players who say the magic phrase actually go to Disney World or Disneyland, usually the next day after the game. This year, Mahomes and his family will go to Disneyland, the closest of the two U.S. parks to Las Vegas, where the 2024 Super Bowl was held.

If you’re ever at Disney World or Disneyland the day after the Super Bowl (again, depending on which park is closest to the Super Bowl location), chances are you’ll run into a representative or two of the winning players. The Super Bowl team will take part in a festive parade down Main Street, USA, held Monday at 2:00 PM Pacific Time.
Often, but not always, it’s the MVP of the game that’s at Disney World or Disneyland the next day.
If that sounds like something you want to be a part of, it’s never too early to start making plans for next year when the Super Bowl will be held in New Orleans, making Disney World a good candidate for the festive parade the day after .
