The autopsy report revealed Perry used ketamine treatment for anxiety and depressiona treatment described on the Ketamine Specialists website as “remarkable for having a success rate of up to 70% in patients who have tried conventional treatment and still suffer from debilitating depression.”

An unidentified woman told investigators that Matthew Perry had recently seen two doctors. His first doctor treated him with ketamine treatments every other day – but his new doctor (within the last six months) stated that since Perry was in good spirits and “his depression was fine,” he did not need any more treatments.

However, the autopsy report also states that Perry’s most recent treatment was a week and a half ago.

At the time of his death it is unclear whether Dr. Atoian was the new doctor who saw Perry in the past six months, or the previous one — but the autopsy report, obtained by The Blast, calls him the “current” doctor.

Ketamine infusion treatments are “quickly recognized as one of the most important developments in modern therapy for depression,” according to Perry’s primary care physician, Dr. Andre Atoian. “Standard therapy targeting the neurotransmitters involved in mood has not been effective in the large number of individuals who use them. Yet countless people continue to use these medications simply because there is no better option.”

“While new research is underway to understand the true extent of ketamine’s powers, current evidence suggests that ketamine has the ability to reset and regrow our brain cells, helping patients take back control of their lives ,” said Dr. Atoian about the therapy.

He added that ketamine “has my name written all over it – they might as well have called it ‘Matty’.”

According to Dr. Atoian, ketamine therapy infusions are performed in private rooms on comfortable armchairs and via intravenous (IV) infusion, as this is the most efficient way to deliver the treatment.
