Speaker Kevin McCarthy gathered his House Republicans for a meeting to discuss investigations, then told them to fund the government and challenged them to fire him.
Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News reported:
MCCARTHY effectively said he is not afraid of a motion to vacate. He said every speaker would do pretty much what he does.

In this case, Speaker McCarthy is right. The Republicans in the House of Representatives will have no influence on a government shutdown and will have their heads handed over by the White House and the Senate.
The Republicans in the House of Representatives would not win a government shutdown, because Republicans never win a government shutdown.
To the extent that McCarthy isn’t afraid of a motion to leave, that’s a lie.
Every step McCarthy has taken to become Speaker and everything he has done since becoming Speaker has been done through the prism of avoiding a motion to evict.
As Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) or other MAGAs file a motion to vacate, Kevin McCarthy will be roasted as Speaker. McCarthy doesn’t have the votes to survive an eviction motion, and Democrats won’t lift a finger to save him.
Kevin McCarthy has been a dead man since he became chairman, and the twin issues of a Biden impeachment that much of his caucus doesn’t want to deal with and a looming government shutdown have sent his majority into a meltdown that could ultimately result in the Californian gets the axe.
