Ludvig Aberg has proven to everyone that he is absolutely the right choice to captain the European Ryder Cup team for the biennial tournament. The Swedish professional golfer put on an incredible show for golf fans at the 2023 BMW PGA Championship.
He dominated the star-filled field over the past two days, including Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.
Aberg took the lead in the BMW PGA Championship after the second round and expanded it after the third round on Saturday. He finished with a score of less than 16 and maintained a two-stroke lead over Tommy Fleetwood and Connor Syme.

The final round of the 2023 BMW PGA Championship starts at 8.10am BST on Sunday. Andy Sullivan starts the match on the ninth hole with Darius Van Driel and Mikael Lindberg, while Jason Scrivener tees off at 8.20am BST with Adrian Otaegui.
Rory McIlroy resumes play with Alexander Bjork and Jorge Campillo on the first hole at 8.40am BST, while Viktor Hovland is joined by Sepp Straka and Marcus Helligklide, teeing off at 10am BST. Tyrrell Hatton starts the match at 10:10 BST with Nathan Kimsey and Jon Rahm on the first hole.
Ludvig Aberg’s performance at the 2023 BMW PGA Championship
Aberg started his game with a birdie on the fourth hole of the first round. He bogeyed the ninth hole and then carded five straight birdies on the back nine of the opening round.
He scored a 68 in the first round and started the second round again with a birdie on the second hole and then added birdies on the fourth and seventh holes. He made eight birdies and one double bogey to settle for a score of 66 on Friday, playing the third round of 66 after five birdies, one eagle and one bogey.
Aberg most recently won the European Masters and earned a spot on the European Ryder Cup team and said winning the BMW PGA Championship is on his bucket list.
About the tournament, Aberg said (via PlanetSport):
“It is one of the biggest events on the DP World Tour, it has been that way for a long time. I have memories of Alex (Norwegians) winning when he hit an incredible shot into the 18. It’s really cool to see myself up there, I have to pinch myself every now and then, but it’s pretty cool.”
Ludvig Aberg will next play at the 2023 Ryder Cup, scheduled for September 29 with the final on Sunday, October 1 in Rome, Italy.
