We may only just be in spring, but now is the time to start planning and booking your summer vacations for 2024 if you don’t want to risk hotels and flights selling out. But with so many incredible destinations, it’s not always easy to decide where to fly.
Luckily, Google Flights just released its list of top destinations for summer 2024. The list was compiled based on the most searched destinations by US travelers on Google Flights for travel between June 1 and August 31.
This year’s list is packed with some of the busiest and trendiest destinations among American travelers. While it features some of the usual suspects (we’re looking at you, Paris), there are a few surprises in there too.

London led the pack, with an overwhelming majority of American travelers wanting to take a trip across the pond to Britain. Paris came in second, which should come as no surprise in the run-up to this year’s Olympic Games.

In third place, however, comes our first surprise in the form of Tokyo, which has risen from eighth position. Both Madrid and San Juan have also entered the top 20 for the first time at positions 18 and 20 respectively.
Many popular American destinations such as New York, Miami, Seattle and Boston made the list. This year, both Chicago and San Francisco dropped from the top rankings.
In terms of the best family travel destinations, Turks and Caicos, Jamaica and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina all rank highly. Turks and Caicos in particular also proved to be the most popular destination for couples and the fourth most popular place for solo travelers.

In short
Google just released its list of the most searched destinations on Google Flights by US travelers. Whether you’re looking for some inspiration before booking your summer holiday or simply want to avoid the busiest and most popular destinations this year, there’s plenty to draw from.
Overall, London and Paris proved most popular with all travellers, while Turks and Caicos appealed to solo travellers, families and couples. We also saw the rise of several other destinations this year that may not have been on your list, including San Juan, Tokyo and Madrid.
