A garden room full of the most luminous plants and luxurious wooden furnishings painted the atmosphere during the FABY’s Awards 2024 at The Times Square Edition hotel on Tuesday evening.

Founder and CEO of Fashion Bomb daily newspaper, Claire Sulmers created the FABYs in 2019 to spotlight the changemakers who are taking creative and revolutionary action to stand up and stand out.

“I started the FABYs to recognize stylists, makeup artists, designers and influencers who I loved, but who didn’t always get the recognition they deserved,” shared Sulmers. “With the deaths of black fashion icons like Virgil Abloh and Andre Leon Talley, I think it’s important to give people their flowers while they’re here.”

Dressed in a stunning fuchsia pink dress by Fashion Bomb Daily Shop Designer Matopeda Atelier and shoes by Voyette Lee, Claire took the stage to recognize the fashion disruptors who took 2023 by storm and pushed the envelope one step further. Some of the brightest influencers were there to celebrate their brilliance.

From fashion stylist Wilford Lenov, who was voted ‘Stylist of the Year’ by our readers, to Jenee Naylor who took home the ‘Influencer of the Year’ award, and celebrity make-up artist Michele Latrice who joyfully declared ‘Make-up Artist of the year’ received. years,” the building buzzed with grandeur.

Speaking of greatness, the legendary Misa Hylton wore a Balenciaga and Daniel’s Leather ensemble when she ‘Fashion Icon of the Year” for her incredible impact on the fashion industry as a whole. Since bursting onto the scene in the 1990s with styling artists like Lil Kim and Mary J. Blige, Hylton has created her legacy and become a household name.

Her keen eye for fashion and trends has allowed her to influence popular culture with her innovative techniques. And that’s not all.

As the founder of the Misa Hylton Fashion Academy, Hylton also uses her platform to pass it on to the rising generation. Her academy offers educational courses such as fashion technology, business and fashion styling. Many of her graduates have even gone on to work for companies such as Elle, Bazaar and Essence, demonstrating Hylton’s excellent leadership skills.

After all FABY recipients received their prizes, guests enjoyed delicious dishes from chef John Fraser’s modern brasserie at The Edition. The night continues with guests mingling, dancing and taking photos of their beautiful ensembles all night long.

It was great to see pioneers in both the fashion and media industries such as Mona-Scott Young, Dr. Bobbi Peterson, Ty Hunter, Bruce & Glen, Harrison Crite and Icon Billingsley, who effortlessly displayed so much style and grace.
