I went through a brief punk phase growing up, and all I wanted to wear were studs and buckles. Now, for 2024, they’re back, and 11-year-old me is thrilled. Of course, they look fancier than the bracelets and shoes I used to get from Norwich market, with kitten heels and pumps being the main styles to look out for. I also went through a hippie phase (there were a lot of style evolutions in the early ’00s) where I relied heavily on extra baggy, floor-sweeping jeans. That’s why I’m thrilled that baggy jeans are back, but this time it’s all about a more polished hemline with oversized turn-ups.
And when it comes to shorts, although my mini skirts used to be so short they had built-in panties (again a find at the Norwich market), this year I’ll be bucking the short shorts trend and leaving my shorts south go with custom Bermuda pairs. There are some trends I will return to, others I never will, and some will feel familiar yet fresh. These are the 5 trends that I, a millennial, will wear in 2024.
1. Turned up jeans
Style Notes: I’ve been seeing supersize turn-up jeans everywhere lately. And while my 12-year-old self happily let my baggy jeans drag across the floor, collecting rain, trash, and everything else along the way, I now appreciate this slimmer hemline. Marianne proves that this is also the perfect way to show off a great pair of shoes.
Buy the trend:
Agolde
Women’s jeans with wide legs and cuffs
These will work so well with a kitten heel.
I love the slouchy fit of this Cos pair.
Albaray
Light wash jeans
I’m thinking of these for spring with mesh ballerinas and a vest top.
Loewe
Cropped jeans with high waist
This rich denim shade goes with so many colors.
2. Bandeau tops
Style Notes: Just like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, I of course had several strapless tops (to wear with my extra wide jeans). But now I prefer to wear them with wide-leg trousers or straight-leg jeans for evening, and I can’t wait to wear knit options with linen shorts and sandals for summer. Yes, I’m definitely thinking about warm weather clothing.
Buy the trend:
Cos
Custom made waistcoat bustier
This button-down version is just so chic.
Reform
Sallie silk top
The back of this silky soft model is so beautiful.
I’m wearing this this spring with linen pants and ballet flats.
Khaiet
Jericho ribbed bandeau top with curved neckline
3. Sporty items
Style Notes: I own these Adidas x Wales Bonner pants and Lucy has made me feel like I need them. I remember my sister always wearing sweatpants (most likely Kappa) and while I never wore them in the 00s, I will in 2024. I’m also loving all the sporty zip-up tops and hoodies out there at the moment – they look so good with tailored pieces.
Buy the trend:
Wales Bonner
Training pants made of recycled polyester with three stripes
Of course I had to have those pants.
These are also on my wish list.
Sporty and rich
Vendome Baseball Cap
Combine with a burgundy red or brown outfit.
Mango
Cotton racing jacket
Such a nice jacket from the new Mango Selection collection.
4. Long shorts
Style Notes: While Prada, Isabel Marant and Alexander McQueen wore short shorts all over the spring/summer catwalks, longline styles were the star of the show on the streets during CPHFW. I appreciate both, but in reality I definitely wear tailored tall pairs with studded sandals or ballet flats. And I love how Marilyn styled hers with socks and chunky loafers.
Buy the trend:
Wilma pleated Bermuda shorts
Ray
Long denim shorts made of organic cotton from the 90s
Denim also moves further south.
free-est

Massimo Dutti
Long Bermuda shorts with darts
Hello, new spring workwear shorts.
5. Shoes with buckles
Style Notes: Buckle shoes are the style of the season, with a lot of attention being paid to slingback kitten heels and pumps. They feel like a nice addition to outfits compared to many of the minimalist shoes we saw in 2023. And M&S, Mango and & Other Stories have some of the best pairs of the moment.
Buy the trend:
M&S collection
Leather Buckle Kitten Heel Slingbacks
I want these in pink and black.
& other stories
Mesh ballerinas
These will undoubtedly sell out quickly.
TO SEE
Red ballerinas with wide brim and buckle
An easy way to wear this season’s key color.
