Despite the overwhelming results of an Internet search for “the best blushes,” shopping for your ideal blush can be made easy. One of the biggest determining factors when I’m looking for a new blush product is without a doubt the formula. Most blush formulas fall into one of the following categories: powder, cream, gel, or liquid. Lately, cream-based blush formulas have been on the rise, with makeup lines offering them as alternative versions of their best-selling powder blush products. For example, Nars’ cult classic powder blush in Orgasm has been launched in the form of a multi-functional stick.
I flock towards cream and gel blushes that have a sheer but buildable quality, as they tend to leave room for tiny mistakes and a chance for the product to build up to my desired pigment. My skin type is dry, so I prefer products that are packed with long-lasting skincare benefits. Blush comes in a number of finishes that can make an impact on a completed makeup look. Whether you’re in the mood for matte or craving something dewy and fresh, there’s something for you!
Before we dive into the blushes I’ve been completely obsessed with since long before I became a beauty editor, I thought it would be helpful to reach out to one of the beauty industry’s most renowned celebrity makeup artists, who doesn’t shy away from shy away from adding a gorgeous blush of color every chance she gets. Courtney Hart — who has worked with the likes of Anna Cathcart, Kristen Bell, Hilary Duff and Chelsea Handler — shared some of the blushes she always looks for in her makeup kit. Check out her picks and my personal favorites below!
