Love or hate its irreverent branding, you have to support Dbrand for its consistency. The company best known for its range of skins and cases for consumer tech gadgets is releasing its mechanical keyboard keys today, and they’re remarkably on-brand.
The Pyramid keycap is a pointed escape key that the company says will stab anyone who presses it (“advocates recommended that we soften the point a bit, but rest assured you’ll never get more than one firm key press away blood draw”) and a replacement enter key called The Enter, which simply reads ‘fuck off’.
Instead of full keycap sets designed to replace all the keys on a keyboard, these new keycaps are designed to replace just a few keys. The company says they are designed to work with any GMK kit, meaning they should work with all other keycaps that use the common Cherry profile.
Both are made entirely of metal and available in three colors; black, bare metal (also called silver) and neochrome. The Pyramid escape key also has cutouts designed to allow the keyboard’s RGB lighting to pass through, with holes on both the top and bottom to work with north and south switches.
Interestingly, Dbrand does not sell the keycaps directly, as with most of its other products, but through keyboard specialist NovelKeys. The Pyramid and The Enter are available today for $60 and $40 respectively.
Disclosure: The Verge recently collaborated with Dbrand on a series of skins and cases.
