Every week we use the Opta Player Ratings to assess the best performing players from each Premier League matchday. Here we analyze the top five players of the week from matchday 11.
We introduced the Opta Player Ratings this summer. For a brief introduction to how they are calculated, see our explanation here.
In short, the Opta Player Ratings take into account over 100 different metrics to provide an accurate measure of each player’s performance over a single match, specific period or an entire season. These statistics determine six sub-components for each player: categories such as shooting, passing and defense. Then these subcomponents are combined to calculate a total score (from 20-100) based on a player’s position in the match. These scores also drive our range of brand new free-to-play gaming experiences.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at the top performers from Matchday 11 in the Premier League.
1. Nicolas Jackson – 99.4 (Tottenham vs. CHELSEA)
Chaos reigned in north London on Monday night as Chelsea finally got the upper hand over Spurs in an extraordinary match that ended Ange Postecoglou’s unbeaten start as Premier League manager.
The match saw five goals, a further five disallowed, two red cards, a string of injuries and Nicolas Jackson’s first hat-trick in the top five European leagues, as Chelsea won 4–1.
Jackson took advantage of Tottenham’s crazy high line – something they continued to use even when they were reduced to nine men – with the Senegalese striker completing a few breakaway moves after Chelsea figured out how to exploit Spurs’ defensive line.
It perhaps sums up Jackson’s start at Stamford Bridge that he looked fairly unconvincing for large parts of this match. Yet our Player Ratings have no input into “looks a bit underconfident”, preferring to rely on the much more scientific measure of “goals”.
Jackson had three in this match, one more than he had in his previous nine Premier League appearances.
2. Jérémy Doku – 99.3 (MANCHESTER CITY vs Bournemouth)
Jérémy Doku was almost at the top of the list this weekend, but was pipped to that place by Jackson in the last game of the match day. Still, a score of 99.3 against Bournemouth – thanks to four assists and a goal – is not bad at all.
Only eight times have we witnessed a player score four goals in a single Premier League match, with Doku’s four assists being the first since Paul Pogba’s quadruple goal for Manchester United against Leeds United in 2021-2022.
With a goal to go and his four assists, Doku – aged 21 years and 161 days – became both the youngest player in Premier League history to score five goals in a single match, and the youngest player to assist four goals in a single match. game.
City’s 6-1 win over Bournemouth took them to 13 consecutive wins against the Cherries. That is the longest winning streak for one team against another in Premier League history.
3. Bernardo Silva – 98.7 (MANCHESTER CITY vs Bournemouth)
Bernardo Silva was on the scoresheet twice in the same match. His first was a beautiful first-touch finish after Doku reached the byline and knocked back a cross. That combination was on display again late in the second half when Doku picked out his teammate’s run behind the Bournemouth defense with a long, precise pass. From then on it was all Silva, who dribbled past Lloyd Kelly before brazenly lifting the ball over an outstretched Neto. After the match, Pep Guardiola described the goal as “watching Lionel Messi”.
Well, that’s good enough for us.
The Portuguese midfielder was at his best, threatening best, drifting in from the right flank and causing all kinds of problems. He attempted 37 passes in the final third and completed 32; no player on the field could better any of these scores.

4. Cameron Archer – 93.4 (SHEFFIELD UNITED vs Wolves)
Cameron Archer’s wonder goal secured Sheffield United’s first win of the Premier League season as he raced onto a loose ball that had ricocheted past the Wolves backline and unleashed a rocket that rocketed in off the underside of the crossbar. Archer’s strike was actually Sheffield United’s first shot on target in 200 minutes of Premier League football since Rhian Brewster’s 52nd-minute effort against Man Utd on October 21.
Wolves then equalized before Oliver Norwood stepped up to win the match with a 100th minute penalty.
Archer was Sheffield United’s main threat in the penalty area and made eight touches in the Wolves area, more than any player on either side.
How they needed his goal and this win.
5. Rodri – 92.0 (MANCHESTER CITY vs Bournemouth)
Manchester City’s most important player may not be the tall Norwegian striker up front, but rather the peerless Rodri in midfield. In his absence, City look like a completely different team. Now that he’s back, they look as strong as ever.
It is no coincidence that Guardiola’s side lost all three Premier League games that Rodri missed through suspension, while his return against Brighton kicked off their ongoing run of four wins in all competitions.
Since making his debut for the club in August 2019, Man City’s winning percentage in all competitions stands at 74.2% when Rodri plays, compared to 60.0% when he doesn’t. Talk about indispensable.
He was imperious in this match, leading all City players for touches (104), passes (99) and final third entries (19).
