Hamburg Airport in Germany canceled all flights Saturday night as authorities responded to an armed man driving his vehicle onto the tarmac and parking it near a plane.
The man fired at least one shot into the air, Hamburg police spokeswoman Sandra Levgrün said in an interview on social media.
No injuries have been reported so far, Ms. Levgrün said.
Police said they were attempting to contact the driver of the vehicle, who they said was accompanied by an underage passenger, adding that they believed the situation involved a “custody dispute.”
Early on, two small fires were observed on the tarmac, but authorities were still trying to determine if they were started by the man.
A police spokesman, Thilo Marxsen, said officers at the scene sought a Turkish interpreter to communicate with the man as the standoff in Hamburg lasted until after midnight.
Passengers aboard the plane near the vehicle were evacuated, police said, and passengers aboard other planes on the tarmac continued to be evacuated.
A video on social media showed heavily armed officers escorting a group of passengers across the tarmac to a bus.
They were evacuated to a nearby hotel, police said.
An airport spokeswoman, Katja Bromm, said in an email that police responded to the airport at 8:24 p.m. local time, requesting that the takeoff and landing be halted.
Twenty-seven flights have since been canceled, she added, affecting about 3,200 passengers.
