Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is thriving on the court, but his life outside of basketball has recently taken a sharp turn. The OKC Thunder guard is in the middle of a legal battle over a property he just purchased.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his girlfriend recently purchased a lakeside mansion worth more than $8 million, but are now trying to work it out. The reasoning behind this has to do with the previous owner of the house.
Before SGA purchased the property, it was owned by a man named Aiden Pleterski. He made his fortune in cryptocurrency, but his operation eventually fell apart. Pleterski owes investors more than $40 million because of this failed business.

Before purchasing the house, the OKC Thunder guard knew nothing about the previous owner. They are aware of the situation because threats have been made on the premises. Reports emerged that Gilgeous-Alexander’s girlfriend had to call police after the place was in danger of being burned down.
After this ordeal, SGA is now suing to have the sale of the house annulled. The basis for their case is based on the fact that they were unaware of the previous owner’s activities before purchasing the property.
Real estate attorney speaks about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s case
While most may think the NBA star has an easy case to get this sale annulled, it could be a difficult road. Later in the report on the story, a real estate lawyer from the area gave his opinion.
When asked if this matter could be resolved in court, the real estate attorney said it is very difficult for a buyer to get out of a sale once it has closed.
βIt’s generally a pretty high standard to get out of a deal,β said Zinati, who is not involved in the case. “Now [if] If you want to get out of a deal after you’ve made it, it’s very difficult.”
He stated that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his girlfriend can warn the buyer, but that doesn’t really apply to situations like this. Buyers typically bring this up when filing a lawsuit to repair damage to the home. Furthermore, it is not intended to help anyone out of a sale.
In the opening weeks of the season, SGA is now overwhelmed by off-field drama. In addition to leading the charge for the OKC Thunder, he has to fight in court over this unsafe property.
