Movement follows election of ‘Marxist lesbian’ as leader of organization
Another state has slammed the American Library Association “for its promotion of Marxism” and its pro-porn advocacy, insisting on “providing sexually explicit reading material to children,” a new report confirms.
Its extreme positions on a number of issues have already led to rejection of the ALA by the Montana State Library Commission, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, and the states of Missouri and South Carolina, as well as a list of county library organizations.
Now the Washington Stand reports that Florida has joined the “growing number” of states rejecting the ALA’s left-wing social and political agendas.
Florida’s Division of Library and Information Services, a division of the Florida Department of State, has issued a new rule stating that it “would not authorize grant project activities associated with the American Library Association or its affiliates,” according to Politico, the report said.
The ALA had previously challenged Florida’s plans to remove sexually explicit books from schools, and the American Association of School Librarians, a part of ALA, joined an activist organization fighting against keeping inappropriate material for children.
“The major upheaval in educational institutions is very welcome and long overdue,” Meg Kilgannon, senior fellow for educational studies at the Family Research Council, told The Washington Stand. “Congratulations to Florida for this step, and I hope other states will find it difficult to justify association with the porn-promoting, progressive ALA.”
Many of the concerns that already existed because of the ALA’s long history of promoting offensive material came to a head when the ALA elected Emily Drabinski as president, and she celebrated this by saying, “I just can’t believe a Marxist lesbian who believes it is possible to build and use collective power for a better world is the president-elect of the @ALALibrary.”
In The Stand, Kilgannon continued: “Parents who have tried to obtain books that are unsuitable for children who are age-restricted or removed altogether often find that the book approval process used by their school systems does not require ANYONE to read the books (including library staff) and was designed in consultation with left-wing groups such as the ALA.”
Kilgannon said community vigilance is needed to investigate public facilities such as libraries.
