Supreme Court Justice William Clark on Wednesday threw out the results of the Democratic mayoral primary in Bridgeport, Connecticut, citing video evidence of potential ballots that he described as “shocking.”
The move – just six days before the general elections – has sent shockwaves across Constitution State’s largest city.
Mayoral candidate John Gomes has filed a lawsuit challenging the September primary won by Democratic Mayor Joe Ganim, who earned just 251 more votes than his opponent. A total of 8,173 votes were cast.
Judge Clark cited surveillance footage that appeared to show multiple people placing bags of ballots in mailboxes, in violation of state law.
Multiple videos, one of which can be seen below, were posted to Gomes’ Facebook page.

Videos of possible ballot stuffing Quick judge to throw out election results
The above surveillance video reportedly shows Wanda Geter-Pataky, vice chair of the Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee and a supporter of Ganim, placing ballots into a city mailbox.
According to NBC Connecticut, Geter-Pataky has exercised her right to remain silent several times in court and refused to state whether or not she was the person in the video.
Another video appears to show multiple people, including one wearing a T-shirt in support of Gomes, loading ballots into another mailbox.

It should be noted that under Connecticut law, it is legal for voters to designate health care providers, elected officials, law enforcement, or family members to drop off ballots in their name.
Furthermore, both the candidates and their teams have expressed conflicting suspicions about what is actually shown in the videos.
However, the video evidence is so muddled that Judge Clark found he had no choice but to throw out the results.
“The number of ballots so mishandled is such that the outcome of the primary is seriously called into question and the court is unable to determine the legitimate outcome of the primary,” he said in his ruling.
“The videos are shocking to the court and should be shocking to all parties,” the judge continued.
After that video was released, John Gomes, the duped candidate in the race, held a press conference exposing the mountain of evidence they had that the election had been stolen from him. His team also vowed to challenge the results in courthttps://t.co/qDkxw5oJPU pic.twitter.com/oS8S0uezP3

Youth work will take place after the general elections
Aside from the video evidence purporting to show ballot tampering in action, Judge Clark, according to the Associated Press, also cited “statistics showing that abnormally large numbers of absentee ballots have been cast in certain precincts,” further casting doubt on the legitimacy of the Democratic Party. primary.
“This is a victory for the people of Bridgeport,” Gomes responded to the judge’s ruling. “Our campaign has always believed that the integrity of our democratic process must be upheld and Supreme Court Justice William Clark agreed.”
However, the situation has created quite a conundrum for the city of Bridgeport. The general election will be held as planned on November 7. At the same time, however, voters would have to return at a later date to decide who the Democratic nominee will be.
A primary election after the general election is certainly unique. But Clark stated that his hands are tied because he does not have the authority to oppose or postpone a general election.

Mayor Ganim is a former felon who was convicted in 2003 on 16 federal charges including racketeering, racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, bribery, and mail fraud.
He was sentenced to nine years in prison and ordered to pay approximately $300,000 in fines and restitution. Ganim resigned two weeks after his conviction, but made a comeback that brought him back to the mayor’s office in 2015.
