Matthew Perry’s ex-fiance Molly Hurwitz spoke out after the news of his death.
“[Matthew] I would love for the world to talk about how talented he was. And he was really, really talented,” Hurwitz, 32, wrote via Instagram on Monday, October 30, adding that the pair would often rewatch ahead of Max’s 2021 reunion. Friends together and beam about his performance as the sarcastic and witty Chandler Bing. (Perry starred on the NBC series from 1994 to 2004.)
“’Fk, I was so good!!! … See what I did there???” she remembered him saying. “We rewinded scenes and studied them. Our respect and appreciation for humor is something that bonded us. It was magical to be with him when he rediscovered his genius.”
In addition to remembering the best times with Perry — whom she parted ways with in 2021 — Hurwitz noted that she also knew the late sitcom star “in a very different way.”
“Although I loved him more than I could understand, he was complicated and caused pain like I had never known,” she continued. “No one in my adult life has had a greater impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I am extremely grateful for that, for everything I learned from our relationship.”
She concluded her post with a mention of Al Anon, urging those who “love someone struggling with this disease” or addiction to seek help. “Matty, I feel relieved that you are at peace,” she wrote. “Sincerely, Moll-o-Rama(…fication).”
Hurwitz’s words come two days after Perry’s sudden death on Saturday, October 28, when he was found dead in his Los Angeles home at the age of 54 following an apparent drowning. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, his cause of death was “deferred” after his initial autopsy because the results were determined to be inconclusive pending a toxicology report. An investigation is underway.

Luckily, I was dating the greatest woman in the world at the time,” Perry shared People in November 2020.
Later that year, the couple announced they had called it quits. “Sometimes it just doesn’t work out and this is one of them. I wish Molly the best,” Perry’s rep shared We weekly in a June 2021 statement.
Prior to his death, Perry had been open about his struggles with addiction. After converting his Malibu home into a sober living facility for men in 2013, he said he wanted to be remembered for his efforts to help people dealing with the same disease.
“The best thing about me is that if an alcoholic or drug addict comes to me and says, ‘Will you help me?’ I can say yes and follow through and do it,” he said on a November 2022 episode of the “Q with Tom Power” podcast. ‘If I die, I don’t want to Friends to be the first to be mentioned. I want this to be the first thing that comes up, and I will spend the rest of my life proving that.”
