FC Köln took the decision on Tuesday to officially extend Jan Thielmann’s contract.
The attacker, a member of the Billy Goats youth team, is now contracted to the club for another two years, or until 2026.
The 21-year-old must first get his playing career back on track. He injured his knee and is currently undergoing treatment.
“Jan is one of our greatest talents. He has continued to develop since his professional debut and at the age of 21 has already made over 100 professional appearances under his belt. If it weren’t for the injury setbacks of the recent past, he would have had even more appearances. We firmly believe that his development is not over yet and we look forward to him being back on the pitch soon and continuing his path at FC. “We will have a lot of fun with Jan, especially because of his excellent mentality,” said FC director Christian Keller.
Thielmann explains: “What I have experienced so far at FC motivates me to really give my all in the rehabilitation every day. I can hardly wait to finally get back on the pitch and support FC with everything I have to be successful with our team and coaching team. I was an FC fan as a little boy and really wanted to play for Cologne and am therefore very proud that I became a professional here. I am very much looking forward to the coming years at FC and what we can achieve together.”
