Many followers shared their thoughts on her original decision and change of heart in the comments section.
“I know you had good intentions to take care of your other employees, but I think this was the right move. This will help everyone in general once they finally give in. I’m proud of you! I know this was a very difficult decision,” one person wrote.
Another added: “All this could have been avoided if you had stood behind the creatives from the start. Your bad decision created a ripple effect where other shows were now looking for ways to get around the strike and it obviously damaged your brand. . I’m glad you’ve come to this realization now, but it cost you something.’
One fan shared why her decision to pause the show is the right one for everyone.
“This is absolutely the right thing to do on SO MANY levels. You grew up in this industry. You KNOW how important it is to stand in solidarity with the writers until the strike is over. Your show wouldn’t have lasted long if you went ahead with the premiere. This is certainly the best way to do what is best for the writer and all people in the industry going forward. POWER IN NUMBERS! 💪🏻”

A few days prior to this new announcement to pause filming of the show, Barrymore issued a video apology on Instagram. The video was deleted not long after she shared it as more reactions appeared in the comments section.
“I don’t know exactly what to say because sometimes when things are so difficult it’s hard to make decisions from that place, so all I can say is that I wanted to accept responsibility. And no, there is no PR machine behind this,” she explained.
“My decision to come back to the show, I didn’t want to hide behind people, so I won’t, and I won’t polish this with bells and whistles, publicists and corporate rhetoric. I’m just going to stand there, accept it and be responsible.”

She went on to explain that she didn’t expect the attention she received for her decision to film new episodes during the strike, saying, “This is bigger than me.”
“I wanted to do this because, like I said, this is bigger than me and there are other people’s jobs at stake. And since I started live during a pandemic, I just wanted to make a show that was there for people in sensitive times,” she continued.
“And I weighed the scales and thought, if we could keep going during a global pandemic and everything the world has been through in 2020, why should this sideline us? So I just want to put one foot in front of the other and make a show that is there for people no matter what else is going on in the world, because then I think we all need something that wants to be there, very realistic. in very realistic times. So that’s my why.”
