A man in Louisiana just won a lawsuit against the city of Grand Isle.
Ross Brunet carries anti-Biden flags on the back of his truck. He has been ticketed several times and the city even went so far as to pass an ordinance in an attempt to stop him.
He won the lawsuit on the grounds of freedom of speech. This article doesn’t specify what the flags say, but you could easily assume they say something like “F” Joe Biden.
The Associated Press reports:
Island town Louisiana wants to repeal ordinance and allow driver to fly vulgar anti-Biden flag
An island town on Louisiana’s coast will repeal an anti-obscenity ordinance and let a contractor raise a flag from his truck bearing an obscenity aimed at President Joe Biden, under the terms of a lawsuit filed Friday in federal court.
The settlement was reached in a lawsuit the Tulane First Amendment Law Clinic filed in January against the city of Grand Isle on behalf of Ross Brunet of Cut Off, Louisiana, who regularly works on the island. The suit said he repeatedly flew three flags from his truck. One of them promoted breast cancer awareness. Two of them contained vulgarities aimed at Biden and people who voted for him.
According to the lawsuit, Brunet was ticketed seven times. He successfully defended himself against four tickets. Despite winning those cases, he was later fined three more times. The last three cases were dismissed after the city passed an ordinance stating that signs on vehicles “shall not contain language deemed offensive, vulgar or obscene in nature and shall not contain language describing a sexual act.”
The report goes on to say that Brunet will receive $40,000 in legal fees, and that the city will roll back the ordinance. That is good news.

Why was this a problem at all? When Trump was president, celebrities and members of the media said vulgar things about the president every day. It was inevitable. Why this sudden outrage now?
