Who could have ever predicted it? Hunter Biden – a silent advocate for gun rights.
The president’s son, as I’m sure you know, has been charged with three felonies for falsifying background check information to purchase a firearm.
If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
And with that news will come some extraordinary attempts to justify his actions. That would be justification never are offered to the average person.
Then you meet Keisha Lance Bottoms, a former lawyer, judge, mayor of Atlanta and White House adviser to President Joe Biden.
Bottoms suggested, despite her legal background, that she had “never heard” of anyone being prosecuted for the crime Hunter allegedly committed.
In fact, she seems to suggest that the law itself is a bit problematic for drug users, making it a difficult process for them to obtain a firearm.
“Can anyone tell me how many people have been federally charged for purchasing a gun while dealing with substance abuse?” she asked on social media platform X.
“I don’t know the answer, but in over 29 years as a lawyer, I’ve never heard of it,” she added.

DOJ bragged about “aggressively” prosecuting people who committed the same Hunter Biden gun crime
While Bottoms has some basis in the fact that prosecution is considered rare for Hunter’s alleged gun crime, we are somewhat concerned about her inability as an attorney to utilize the Google search engine.

A quick perusal on this revealed a Department of Justice press release from January.
In the announcement, the DOJ brags about federal prosecutors “aggressively prosecuting those who lie in connection with firearms transactions.”
U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester is quoted for the release as saying the department will continue to work diligently “to prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands by holding accountable those who lie to get them.”
Additionally, they highlight several recent prosecutions for lying on the gun form, as Hunter did.

Bottoms teased in Hunter’s defense
For her part, Bottoms is somewhat correct in saying that prosecutions for the gun crime in question are rare.
A March 2021 Politico report indicated that Hunter responded “no” to a question about a firearms transaction record that asked, “Are you an unlawful user of or addicted to marijuana or a depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug or other controlled substance ? substance?”
Biden was discharged from the Marine Reserve after failing a cocaine test and has an open and well-documented history of drug use.
“Lying on the form is a crime,” Politico reported at the time, “although prosecutions for it are extremely rare.”
You know what else is extremely rare? Having your own DOJ prosecutes your political opponent for inflated crimes involving “insurrection.”
In fact it is so rare that this has never happened before in the country’s history. But strangely, the media and Democrats like Bottoms are not focusing on the historic abuse of power when it comes to the prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
Michael Fienman, a criminal defense attorney based in Philadelphia, wrote in a blog post that charges of lying on the gun form are more common than you might think.
“Prosecutors often bring charges regardless of whether the applicant accidentally made a false statement, or in a deliberate attempt to obtain a firearm,” he wrote.
Hunter Biden falls into the latter category. His false statement was clearly intentional.
In addition to being discharged from the Navy Reserve, the younger Biden has an open and well-documented history of drug use, much of which can be seen through the eyes of the public thanks to videos and images from his infamous laptop.
Bottoms was quickly criticized for her comments in defense of Hunter, mostly from those who claimed she was inadvertently arguing that gun laws are too restrictive for a certain segment of the population.
Christina Pushaw, the Rapid Response Director for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), questioned whether Bottoms’ current position is that “crack users should be free to purchase firearms” and then wondered whether that position was similar for law-abiding citizens.
So do you believe that crack users should be free to purchase firearms? What about law-abiding citizens?

Gun rights advocate Chris Loesch pointed out that the issue may not be that Hunter isn’t getting fair treatment. Perhaps the problem is the extremely rare enforcement of gun laws already on the books.
“One of the biggest problems in advocating for new gun laws is the inability or neglect of current gun laws by activist, progressive prosecutors,” Loesch writes. “Every year, tens of thousands of violations go undetected and unreported, leading to many tragedies.”

Hmm. Enforcing laws has always been a sticking point for Democrats who prefer a lawless society.
With the exception of trumped-up “insurrection” claims, there is no law on the books that a Democrat wouldn’t overlook as long as it furthers their cause, even if it would mean the destruction of a city, town, state or country mean. America as we know it.
Comedian Tim Young summarizes Bottoms’ response admirably.
“Keisha thinks crackheads should be able to buy guns… got it,” he wrote.

Hunter was originally given a deal by the DOJ in which he would plead guilty to a pair of crimes, but the charges related to possessing a firearm while an illegal drug user would be dropped if certain conditions were met.
That scheme ultimately failed dramatically, culminating in the news that Attorney General Merrick Garland had appointed a special counsel to investigate the case.
Special counsel David Weiss also reportedly had no intention of indicting the president’s son until whistleblowers came forward with claims that the DOJ was interfering in the case.
The New York Post reported that Weiss was originally “willing to close the investigation without even a plea deal” until IRS whistleblowers came forward and “accused the Justice Department of interference.”
After being publicly exposed for their cronyism, the DOJ has now been forced to take action.
Will Hunter serve even one day in jail on this charge? We will see.
