If you have World or Hyatt Explorist or Globalist status, this one is for you.
While we’ve already covered how American Airlines elite flyers can enjoy World of Hyatt status if they register before November 30, there’s a new way for some World of Hyatt Explorist and Globalist members to get American AAdvantage status to deserve.
Targeted World of Hyatt Explorist and Globalist members can enjoy American Airlines AAdvantage status immediately through American’s status challenge, Instant Status Pass.
Best of all, if you participate in this promotion, your AAdvantage account status will generally be updated immediately.
This is what you can expect:
- Explorist members are eligible for immediate AAdvantage Platinum status and must earn a minimum of 25,000 loyalty points within four months of registration to renew AAdvantage Platinum.
- Globalist members are eligible for immediate AAdvantage Platinum Pro status and must earn a minimum of 42,000 loyalty points within four months of registration to renew AAdvantage Platinum Pro.
- Explorist or Globalist members become AAdvantage Executive Platinum members when they earn 67,000 loyalty points within four months of registration.
You may also be able to maintain entry-level AAdvantage Gold status if you earn 13,000 loyalty points within four months.
To participate in the challenge, you’ll need to link your Hyatt and American loyalty accounts (if you haven’t already) and register for the American Instant Status Pass by October 12.
To register, visit American’s website, log into your account and select “Promotions” from your account home page.

How Instant Status Pass works
While Instant Status Pass can be a great way to enjoy American Airlines status from day one, it’s not easy to understand.
Instant Status Pass divides the calendar into Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3. You must collect a certain number of Loyalty Points every four months (one phase) to renew your status.
Here’s how this worked for me last year as a Globalist member who received a similar promotion. My account was immediately upgraded to Platinum Pro status when I signed up for the Instant Status Pass. To maintain Platinum Pro, I had to earn 42,000 loyalty points for phase 1. I would have lost my status if I had not earned 42,000 loyalty points by March 28, 2023.
Since I had earned 42,000 loyalty points on March 28, I moved into phase 2. As you might expect, phases 2 and 3 required me to earn 42,000 loyalty points again. My earned loyalty points above 42,000 were carried over to phase 2. I earned about 50,000 loyalty points in phase 1, so 8,000 loyalty points were carried over to phase 2; this meant I only needed to earn 34,000 loyalty points during Phase 2 to extend my Platinum Pro status to Phase 3.
Here’s how many loyalty points you’ll need each phase (every four months) if you use American’s Instant Status Pass:
- Gold: 10,000 loyalty points
- Platinum: 25,000 loyalty points
- Platinum Pro: 42,000 loyalty points
- Executive Platinum: 67,000 loyalty points
If you are an Explorist member, you will immediately benefit from Platinum status for the next four months (Phase 1) after registering for the promotion. If you earn 42,000 loyalty points in Phase 1, American will upgrade your status to Platinum Pro. Similarly, if an Explorist or Globalist member earns 67,000 loyalty points in Phase 1, he or she will enjoy Executive Platinum status for Phase 2.
