Singer Olivia Rodrigo has set the record straight about the ongoing whispers of an alleged feud with Taylor Swift.
The two have been linked several times in the press for various reasons. Rodrigo, 20, has spoken at length about her admiration and love for the 33-year-old “You’re In Love” singer and has spoken openly about Swift’s artistic influence on her music.
The Disney darling’s first album was released in 2021 to critical acclaim, with the follow-up, “GUTS,” released on September 8.
However, rumors of a falling out between the musicians have been circulating lately.
In a recent New York Times profile, Rodrigo did not go into detail about how the “Fearless” singer came up. Following Rodrigo’s “brief” comments about Swift in the profile, social media was set ablaze with listener comments about their relationship, with many fans wondering if there was more to their relationship than the “lacey” singer let on.
Is there something going on between Pop’s reigning queens?
Rodrigo was asked in the aforementioned ‘NYT’ profile if she would see shows on Swift’s groundbreaking ‘Eras Tour’. She revealed that she had no plans as of the interview’s publication.
“I haven’t done that yet,” she told the outlet, per American Songwriter. “I’m going to Europe this week.” She also explained that her schedule was packed, presumably with promotion for ‘GUTS’.
The alleged beef reportedly stemmed from the listener’s reception after Swift and her producer and boyfriend Jack Antonoff’s names were added as songwriting credits on multiple tracks from her first LP, “SOUR.”
According to one of our reports, Rodrigo added a credit for the duo to the fan favorite, “Deja Vu.” St. Vincent also reportedly received credit on the track. Rodrigo interpolated Swift’s recent Billboard number one hit, “Cruel Summer.” ‘Cruel Summer’ originally appeared in 2019’s ‘Lover’.
The program ‘Get Him Back!’ The singer also used chords from Swift’s “New Year’s Day,” which appeared on the 2017 LP “Reputation.”
Rodrigo explained the inspiration for the song: “When I got home [from a road trip]I decided to sing [deja vu] about the chords of ‘New Year’s Day.’ I think they are beautiful chords. I was lucky enough to be approved, and it is now on file. So yeah, it’s cool,” she told Zach Sang in an interview. (via The Blast, according to HypeBae.)
In response to Rodrigo’s revelation about her previous European engagement, a fan posted on X“She goes to Europe alone for a holiday, but successfully dodges the question with an irrelevant truth.”
The ‘Vampire’ singer reveals the truth about the alleged feud
Rodrigo is aware of the commentary on social media about a reported feud between herself and one of her musical role models. It is well documented that the ‘Holy Ground’ singer once sent gifts to Rodrigo after the release of ‘SOUR’ and the success of ‘Driver’s License’. (according to The Blast)
The singer set the record straight in a profile with Rolling Stone, published Tuesday morning.
Rodrigo told the outlet, “I don’t have a fight with anyone. I’m very cold. I stay to myself. I have my four friends and my mother, and those are the only people I ever talk to. There is nothing to say.” (per X)
Swift has never responded to rumors of division; she only has positive things to say about Rodrigo. The “Right Where You Left Me” singer sent Rodrigo a note two years ago amid her early success.
About the note, Rodrigo said, “I don’t want to give too much away because it’s beautiful and personal, but she says a lot about how, I think, you make your happiness in the world,” according to Billboard. “I don’t know, she said it so eloquently, and if I say it now… It’s not that cool.” (via Us Weekly.)
