Donald Trump was asked which side he was on in the UAW strike. The former president responded by not supporting the workers and with a mendacious tirade about electric cars.
Trump was asked by Kristen Welker what side he was on during the UAW attack, and he responded with deranged lies:
I stand aside to make our country great. The auto workers won’t have any jobs when you get down to it because if you look at what they’re doing with electric cars, electric cars will be made in China. Autoworkers won’t have that – I’ll tell you what. The autoworkers are being sold down the river by their leadership. Their leadership should support Trump.
The reason is that you should have a choice, like at school. I want school choice. I want a choice of cars. If someone wants gasoline, if someone wants all-electric, they can do whatever they want. They destroy the consumer. They’re destroying the auto workers. The auto workers will have no jobs because all these cars will be made in China. The electric cars will automatically be made in China.
It’s a lie that the United States is going all-electric. It’s a fantasy that Trump has concocted. There is no law stating that gas-powered vehicles will be phased out. Electric cars are breaking sales records in the United States, and what Trump seems most concerned about is that if electric cars all become dominant, his friends in Big Oil and Saudi Arabia will suffer.
The bigger lie that Trump continues to promote is that electric vehicles (EVs) will be made in China. By 2022, 75% of electric vehicles sold in the United States were made in the United States thanks to President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act. New EV buyers are only eligible for a $7,500 tax credit if the car is made in the US.
Joe Biden is bringing the auto industry back home, and Trump’s answer is to refuse to support striking auto workers and lie about where cars are made.
Trump was a total disaster for workers and unions when he was president.
The fact that he would ask a union to endorse him that he appears to be trying to divide and destroy during a strike should tell voters everything they need to know about Donald Trump.
