Maybe we should give up our opinion of Primetime Kirk.
The idea that Kirk Cousins shrinks when the lights go out on national television may be outdated. His record still isn’t great in prime time, with the Minnesota Vikings lose to the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-24, on Thursday evening, but Cousins performed strongly
The Vikings QB led a spirited comeback in the second half by throwing three touchdowns on their last four rides. He was 18-27 with 244 yards passing and no interceptions after halftime. Unfortunately for the Vikings, they lost four fumbles – three in the first half.
While Cousins didn’t throw any INTs On Thursday night, he was taken out of Eagles territory on the Vikings’ first possession of the third quarter. That was a tough task, especially for the Vikings was only one possession behind at that point. The Eagles quickly put the ball in the end zone and went up, 20-7.
However, the Vikings could have been up at halftime if the rest of the Cousins teammates had been Don’t put the ball on the ground so often. The first fumble was a muffed kick in the first quarter. Then the game got really sloppy. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts threw an INT at Philly’s subsequent drive, and when the Vikings offense took the field, Alexander Mattison put the ball on the ground on the next play.
The worst fumble, however, might have been Justin Jefferson’s. He caught a long pass from Cousins as he reached for the pylon he was stripped. The ball rolled out the back of the end zone, resulting in a touchback and the Eagles’ ball with less than a minute left in the second quarter.
Cousins are poor The primetime performance was staged at the same time last season against the exact same team. The Eagles the Vikings drilled, 24-7, in a Week 2 Monday Night Football game. He threw three INTs at that loss. Are include in prime-time games for his career are now 11-20.
Many of you may have been fast asleep on the couch during the third Thanksgiving game last season, but the Vikings played the final game and defeated the New England Patriots, 33-26. Cousins went 30 for 37 with 299 yards, three touchdownsand an INT that night.
So maybe Cousins is no longer bothered by the primetime lights.
There still are plenty of reasons to question Cousins as a starting quarterback, but with a few strong primetime games we can at least rest assured that the moon hitting the sky won’t cause his play to mummify.
