The 23-year-old praised his former fiancée, writing: ‘I love you more than anything… When I close my eyes I think about laying on the roof of the van and falling asleep with the sight of a meteor shower at the crystal geyser. . I will always love you.”
Laundrie then elaborated on the grim details surrounding her death.
“I hear a splash and a scream. I could barely see her, I couldn’t find her for a moment, I called her name. I noticed her breathing heavily as she gasped my name, she was freezing. We just came from the scorching hot Utah National Parks,” he wrote. “The temperature had dropped to freezing and she was soaking wet. I carried her as far as I could down the stream to the car, stumbling exhausted and shocked, when my knees buckled and I knew I couldn’t carry her safely. I lit a fire and spooned her as close to the heat as possible, she was so thin, she had been frozen for too long. I didn’t realize at that moment that I should have lit a fire first, but I wanted to get her back to the car out of the cold.”
Gabby fell into the water and, according to Laundrie, couldn’t tell him what hurt.

He noticed that she had a small bump on her forehead, which grew larger as time went on.
“Her feet hurt. Her wrist ached, but she froze and trembled violently. As she carried, she made constant noises of pain, as she lay beside her, she said, between violent convulsions, gasping in pain, begging for an end to her agony,” his notebook continued. “I ended her life, I thought it was merciful, that this is what she wanted, but I now see all the mistakes I made. I panicked, I was in shock. But from the moment I decided to take her pain away, I knew I couldn’t go on without her.”
Laundrie said he rushed home without Gabby’s body to “spend what time I had left with my family.”
He said he wanted to drive north to be killed by two men, but he didn’t want them to “spend time in jail because of my mistake.”
“I’m not ending my life out of fear of punishment, but rather because I can’t bear to live another day without her. Please don’t make my family’s life harder, they have lost a son and a daughter. The most beautiful girl in the world. Gabby, I’m sorry,” he continued. “I killed myself at this creek hoping that animals would tear me apart. That it can make part of her family happy. Please collect all my things. Gabby hated people who left trash behind.”
