“Then that happened: the water entered the hospital through the front entrances and flooded the front of the hospital, including the lobby, cafeteria, parts of the emergency department, our clinic space and several other support areas,” Keene said .

Keene said once the water came in, there wasn’t much they could do.
“We had multiple drainage systems up to the parking lot, and unfortunately it just got flooded because of the amount of rain,” he said. But they have started the cleaning work.
“Right now we have a restoration crew on site. They’ve been working overnight to get the water out and get equipment ready to dry it out,” he said.

He said there is no timeline at this time for when they will reopen. They are in contact with the Illinois Department of Public Health.
“They have been notified of our situation. Industrial hygienists are on their way who can assist us in developing a cleaning plan. Once the cleaning plan is in place, we will work with the Illinois Department of Health to recertify the facility.” he said.
He is grateful to all other hospitals in the region for their support. “Healthcare is a very close-knit community… They’ve all reached out to a person, you know, with whatever help they can provide,” he said.
