We have activated a Weather Authority Alert for Thursday evening due to the potential for severe thunderstorms. Storms may produce some scattered strong winds, isolated hail and a low risk of a brief tornado.
Storms will develop to our west this afternoon over Missouri and Arkansas, spreading eastward into our area this evening. A few isolated supercells are possible early this evening, but the biggest threat will be a line or complex of storms moving eastward through the area. Storms are expected to develop over SEMO as early as 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM, and the threat should end around midnight. While severe storms are possible anywhere in the area, SEMO appears to have the highest risk. Storms there will have more fuel to work with, while there may be a gradual weakening of the storms as they move eastward deeper into the night.
Make sure your WPSD Radar app with notifications is turned on tonight so you can receive alerts when they are issued for your area.
