The next worst performing sector is the energy sector, with an increase of 0.1%. Among the major energy stocks are Valero Energy Corp (symbol: VLO) and Marathon Petroleum Corp. (symbol: MPC) the most, with a loss of 1.4% and 1.0% respectively. One ETF that closely tracks energy stocks is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE), which is down 0.1% in afternoon trading and is up 3.39% this year. Valero Energy Corp, meanwhile, is up 12.28% year-to-date, and Marathon Petroleum Corp. is up 39.84% since the beginning of the year. Combined, VLO and MPC represent approximately 6.9% of XLE’s underlying interests.
