Working in fashion has always been in Jasmin Larian Hekmat’s DNA.
The founder and creative director of Cult Gaia grew up in a creative household.
Her mother was a fashion designer and currently a sculptor, and her father is a toymaker.
“She taught me how to sew on paper,” Larian Hekmat said. “I grew up going into this closet and finding bags of treasures that I started draping myself as I got older, pinning it down and then sewing it.”
Larian Hekmat studied fashion design and international marketing at FIT, where she interned with Narciso Rodriguez and Jason Wu.
However, Larian Hekmat knew she wanted to move back home to Los Angeles and start her own line, Cult Gaia.
“I made a conscious decision to move, not have to pay rent and start my business.”
For the latest episode of the Who wears what podcastLarian Hekmat talks about how she launched Cult Gaia, her favorite pieces from the new collection, and what she’s wearing for the holidays this year.
