Vaishali Kasture, the Amazon executive appointed as interim head of AWS India and South Asia, has left the company, a source familiar with the matter told TechCrunch, just seven months after taking the top role.
Amazon did not immediately respond to an email and phone request for comment. Amazon sees India as one of the most important markets for AWS, which has aggressively courted hundreds of thousands of companies in India and won many government-owned companies.
The e-commerce giant has announced plans to invest $12.7 billion in its cloud business in India by 2030.
Kasture, who joined Amazon about five years ago, served as interim leader of commercial operations at AWS India and South Asia from June this year. A reason for her departure could not be determined.
She was elevated to the role after Puneet Chandok abruptly left the company and jumped ship to take up the top position at Microsoft India. Until two weeks ago, Kasture was enthusiastic and optimistic about Amazon Web Services’ growth prospects and momentum in India.
“Our total planned investments in India will exceed $16.4 billion or 1.36 lakh crores by 2030, and we expect this to contribute $23 billion to India’s GDP by then,” she wrote in a LinkedIn post.
“In addition to investing in infrastructure and services, we also invest in people and skills and AWS has trained over 4 million people in India through various education and training programs.”
